Some words express an action. They tell us what people do. Such words are called Doing Words or Action Words. These are Verbs.

Read the following sentences.

(1) The children are playing football.

What are the children doing?

They are playing.

(2)The baby is crying.

What is the baby doing?

The baby is crying.

‘Is’ and ‘are’ are helping verbs and they tell us if the action has been done now, or some time ago.
